MLA’s Teacher Innovation Grants (TIG) program provides funding to teachers at West Adams Prep and Manual Arts.
The TIG program is intended to promote the intellectual, innovative, and entrepreneurial capacity of teachers. Designed to give each classroom teacher more creativity and individual agency, Teacher Innovation Grants provide much needed financial support for the classroom, professional development, and the fostering of project-based curriculum.
Previously funded projects have included a community garden project proposed by a biology teacher seeking to develop an inquiry-based approach to engaging students in the real world applications of scientific principles; the construction of the first labyrinth on an LAUSD school campus proposed by an art teacher as a way to engage students in the creation of functional art that benefits the community; and a service learning project focused on the issue of homelessness in Los Angeles designed by an English teacher seeking to incorporate civic leadership and social responsibility into the classroom curriculum.
MLA conducts mandatory orientations to guide applicants through the process of completing an application.
